Schleswig has a lot to offer: An old town worth seeing and a distinctive cultural landscape in the surrounding area. You should take a few days to explore the city on the Schlei at your leisure. To name just a few highlights: the cathedral with its famous Bordesholm altar, the historic old town, the Holm with its picturesque fishing village and the St. Johannis monastery, the castle island with the Schleswig-Holstein State Museums Foundation Schloß Gottorf and the restored baroque garden, where the famous Globus House can be found. The associated Viking Museum Haithabu is also just a few minutes away and day trips to the Baltic or North Sea and Denmark are also recommended. Schleswig is located at the end of Germany's only fjord, the Schlei. It is an arm of the sea more than 30 km long, sometimes wide like a large lake or narrow like a river.
